1     Resistance (1) of a conductor measures its opposition to the flow of electric current.
2     Copper wire conducts electricity better (1) than that of nichrome. This is because copper has a smaller opposition to the flow of electric current / free electrons (1)
than nichrome. That is, copper has a lower resistance (1) than nichrome.
3     The unit of resistance is ohm (1). Its symbol is W (1).
4     For the same voltage applied, the electric current flowing through a circuit will be larger (1) if the resistance is lower.
5     The resistance of a wire depends on its material (1), thickness (1) and length. For wire with the same length and thickness, a nichrome (1) wire has a higher resistance than a copper(1) wire.
For wires made of the same material and with the same length, a thinner (1) wire has a higher resistance.

6     Resistors (1) are used to control the size of the electric current flowing through a circuit with a fixed value of resistance. A larger electric current can be obtained in a circuit by using one with a lower (1) value of resistance.

7     A rheostat (1) can also be used to control the size of an electric current flowing through a circuit because its resistance is variable (1). Two common types used in the laboratory are as follows:
