Fill in the Blanks (19 marks)
1 Matter is made up of atoms (1), each
of which consists of a positively charged nucleus
(1) surrounded by negatively charged electrons (1).
2 Metals are conductors
because the electrons inside can free to move around randomly (1). This kind of electron is called free electrons (1).
3 When
a closed circuit is connected to a dry cell, the free electrons are driven to
flow in the same (1) direction.
They flow from the negative (1) pole of the dry cell to the positive (1) pole. The flow of these electrons form an electric current (1).
4 The size of electric current can be measured by an instrument
called ammeter (1) and it
is measured in ampere (1) (A). The correct way to use this instrument is that
the positive / red (1) terminal should be connected towards the
positive pole of the dry cell and the black terminal towards the negative (1) pole.
5 Voltage (1) of a dry cell is the “push” of free electrons
to flow through the circuit and can be measured by a voltmeter (1). It is measured in volt (1) (V) and smaller unit in millivolt (1) (mV).
6 When more dry cells are
connected in the same direction, the total voltage is higher (1), and the size of the electric current flowing
through is larger (1), provided that other conditions are the same.
