i     Fill in the blanks:
1       We have different senses such as sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.
2       Changes in the environment are called stimuli. Living things can detect and respond to them.
3       By responding to stimuli, living things can find food, shelters, mates and escape from danger.
4       We have different sense organs like eye, ear, tongue, nose and skin. They contain special
kinds of cells called receptors which are sensitive to particular kinds of stimuli.
5       When the receptors detect stimuli, they send signals to our brain through nerves,
which are then interpreted to give us senses.

i     Matching:
Stimuli
are the changes in the environment which can be detected.
Senses
let living things know what the environment changes and so are important for living to survive.
Sense organs
are organs for detecting stimuli.
Receptors
are the special kinds of cells in receptors which are sensitive to stimuli.
Nerves
send signals from receptors to the brain.
Brain
interprets the signals from sense organs and gives senses.

i     Fill in the table:
Sense organ
Stimuli
Senses produced
Eye
Light
Sight
Ear
Sounds
Hearing
Nose
Chemicals in air
Smell
Tongue
Chemicals in food or drinks
Taste
Skin
Things in contact with skin / temperature change
Heat/cold, touch, pain, pressure

i     Concept checking:
Decide whether the following statements are true or not and try to rewrite the correct statements.
1.       Our sense organs can detect changes in our surroundings.                                                True / False
___________________________________________________________________________________________
2.       Humans have five sense organs: eye, ears, mouth, nose and skin.                                   True / False
Humans have five sense orans: eye, ears, tongue, nose and skin.
3.       There are a lot of receptors in our sense organs.                                                            True / False
___________________________________________________________________________________________
4.       Appropriate responses to stimuli are important to the survival of animals.                       True / False
___________________________________________________________________________________________
5.       Our sense organs are responsible for producing senses.                                                 True / False
Our brain is responsible for producing senses / Our sense organs are responsible for detecting stimuli.
